THE TREATMENT OF DOGS BY HOMOEOPATHY BY K. SHEPPARD
By John Morse
Please read this in its entirety because there is an awakening population who can benefit from what I am about to write.
TRADITIONALLY-TRAINED VETERINARIANS ARE ALL TAUGHT, IN USA, THAT EUTHANASIA IS THE ONLY RECOURSE FOR A DOG WHO CONTRACTS CANINE DISTEMPER VIRUS.
Times are changing.....with access to this particular book, it opened up alternate possibilites to the for-sure-death-sentence stated above.
"The Treatment of Dogs" by K. Sheppard is a priceless book for us who have been through the experience of dealing with Canine Distemper Virus Disease. After having to have euthanized one of our beloved seven small dogs to CDV, we expected to lose the other six, TO CANINE DISTEMPER.
As I write this, they are all still healthy and very active. They still have the nose drip and the eyes are now and then full of tears, the noses of two of them have dwindling amounts of the "hard pad" but it is less and less. It seems that a lifetime has passed in the last three stressful months, but, as I said, they are still alive and the disease has not progressed beyond the defense of the mucosal system...the form of entry of this dread virus. Since our dogs are Maltese, and one poodle, they all "present symptoms" similarly.
While conventional medicine always tells pet owners that there is no hope for a dog who contracts canine distemper,I started searching alternate information on the Internet. I found a company employee from a site where I had called and ordered the nosode Distemperinum, after thoroughly researching its information and history. It was she who loaned me this book.
After I could access a copy of this man's wonderful, small 97-pg. book, via the Internet and then reached the seller of this used copy...the only one I found on the Internet....
We learned what NOT TO DO! Whether this could have saved Toby, our beloved little male Maltese, I doubt, as he had advanced to the seizure stage before we knew what was happening. Of course this included Friday night, Saturday and Sunday, with few options for consulting.
This book was originally written in 1962, and revised and reprinted in 1983. I cannot find anything about the author, K. Sheppard.
While is was too late for our first dog, it has helped us, along with other books, found subsequently, by teaching us how to save the others, with K. Sheppard's advice. He was the ONLY ONE to advise about limiting activity and refusing food to the sick dog, author who, by years of experience, had figured out a few vital things.
Dr. Sheppard made it clear that what we had ignorantly done, was totally wrong.
Thinking this through, it got us started on what Homoeopathy is and how to use the philosophy and to understand the safety of HPUS products. In order to do this you must do some serious thinking about the word "energy." None of this is explained in this little book, but there are marvelous other books that do.
Other books explain all of this, but this is the book that made it clear that allowing the dog who has entered the second stage (neurological invasion by the virus) to run and "work it out of his system" -although at that time we did not know what he had contracted - that activity does exactly the worst thing: it spreads the Canine Distemper Virus.
And also feeding does the same thing; it spreads the virus.
Note: While Dr. Sheppard, in l962 or even l983 - may not have known that a particular Vitamin complex might have "fed" this virus/or its ability to replicate, using the healthy cells of the animal for incubation and replication....there was/is? another veterinarian who believed that B vitamins may feed this virus.
I had to think of a base for their home-prepared dog food, having had to remove all kibble because even the best have B vitamins.
Think of something not full of sugar (potatoes) or wheat,corn,soy...all very bad for dogs.
I cooked oatmeal for sixty minutes, to destroy the B vitamins. I then cooled the mixture, added a lot of chicken, and then started adding nutrients that included Vitamins A,C,D,E. Also several other things like amino acids.
Although seriously depriving the dogs of the precious B vitamins, it appears to be essential that you must STARVE THE VIRUS by considerably depleting the dogs for the life of the virus - 3 1/2- to 5 months in a USA climate.
After five months, if you have been able to prevent the virus's spread of replication by building the dogs up with things that can invade the lipid coating, to make vulnerable the cholesterol supply....well, there may be a chance to save them.
You can hope to stop the replication with one or more of the following, every four hours or so, we found.
1. Monolauric acid (found in cocoanut oil, virgin, UNREFINED) 2. Vitamin A that is liver-derived...not synthetic! If it ends in "ate" it is synthetic and has a different "shape" than the real thing. Our cells cannot accept things that do not have a matching pattern for cellular reception, I understand. And you need some in storage for when you are depleted 3. Vitamin A - in beta carotene form - which lasts much less long but is only used as needed, not stored in damaging build-up like too much fat-stored Vit. A 4. Vitamin C - 250mg every four hours (administered by crushing pills and diluting with water, given orally by needleless syringe 5. colloidal silver - if you can make your own properly...NOT IONIC - must pass through GI Tract into intestines on empty stomach and risky in a way, for such small animals, perhaps 6. Vitamin D in safe amounts 7. Lysine 8. Other Amino Acids 9. a product from Amber Technologies called Life Cell Support 10. a kidney restoration product to prevent/dissolve possible crystals forming from too much Vitamin D but they need the D. And more.
These have saved our dogs that ALL displayed the ENTRY SYMPTOMS of the NOSE DRIP, the eyes "tear"ing. Also: two of them had developed "Hard Pad."
which is supposed to be really difficult to eliminate.
These procedures seem to have taken a long time (three months so far) when you do these things every few hours for day after day. But, to repeat: all dogs are still alive and have not progressed beyond the entry symptom of the nose drip and the wet eyes, with now and then a small amount of not-very concentrated mucous. I use boric acid water to clean their eyes and occasionally just colloidal silver.
My husband and myself ended up with the same mucosal condition and so have become guinea pigs in a way. We cannot seem to get rid of it, but was can control it by taking certain things on a regular time schedule. One of the most effective is the Monolaurin 1100 mg that is made by Health from the Sun.
Every four hours, the Vitamin C or A or D or some other thing dries up the discharge going down the throat. It seems to have stopped its progress, but then comes back.
Because of the risk of weight gain from too much cocoanut oil being ingested, and because I suspected that monolaurin might work better in a more concentrated amount, I bought online, monolaurin in the 1100 mg rather than just to eat it in the cocoanut oil but the dogs crave this cocoanut oil. The 1100 mg monolaurin capsules each gave up to 10 hours before the drip returns. We could then sleep before the nasal/sinus drip returned and choked us awake.
Of particular interest is the report of a dog that was destined to die, having been diagnosed with CDV. The owner declined the vet's advice of euthanasia, took dog home, gave him whiskey three times a day and little else but some water, for four months. It turns out that dogs can live for quite a while without food.
The dog lived, the virus died, and then - slowly - the dog was subsequently fed nutritious food and he lived another twelve-or-so years.
The Canine Distemper Virus possibly was a migration from humans through the measles virus, also lipid-coated. It is now suspected that also the Multiple Sclerosis "disease" is caused by the same kind of virus, the Measles virus being the original source. These viruses are all three lipid-coated. If you can break through the slippery fat coating, you can disable or remove the cholesterol needed by the virus for replication. I learned this from a study done in Germany in a lab, that concerned this very thing.
I began learning about this being the only possibility of stopping this dread disease.
There is documentation that the only puppies ever to contract mumps have done so only after exposure to a human who, at that time, had a case of measles.
This brings up a dread question: With all of our children being inoculated against mumps, measles, chicken pox....are we planting within them a -"benign" form into their bodies, to be stored and to later be "awakened" when our immune systems are no longer as strong.
Think of the chicken pox virus that lodges itself in childhood and comes back in aged people to drive them crazy from its symptoms, having been stored in the spine (like MS?) for all of those years. The clue: "MS appears to occur most often in later years, after, as a child, the body was not able to RESOLVE THE VIRUS and therefore, stored/still carried it." I read that on some research site of MS.
History lesson: Human measles victims were dying all over the place and so experimentation with high amounts of Vitamin A were administered and this saved thousands of children who might have died.
Since there seemed to be a connection - that the Canine Distemper (and later, the Multiple Sclerosis) virus were adjustments that the virus made from its "mother virus," the Measles virus..... this is worth thinking about.
Since there appeared to be no cure, people started trying other solutions to the only choice of euthanasia.
Today people are discovering that diet can affect MS. Vitamin D is apparently desperately needed, especially women being very deficient. It makes sense since children do not even safely play outside anymore and few get enough sunlight to process Vitamin D naturally. Not only that, but it takes something like three months for the skin to have absorbed and processed vitamin A for storage.
MS seems to happen in women and atherosclorosis in men. This has been explained by scientists as the difference in how the male and female bodies store and use fat....which is the storage method our bodies were designed to use...men for quick needs, women for survival to carry on the species through pregnancy and nurturing. In any case, the design was from primitive times when food was scarce and you had to survive unfed for long times. Therefore, 80% of our nutrients were to come from stored-in-fat use, and only 20% of sugar/sucrose use for desperate times.
We were just not designed to eat so much as we all have access to, today. That is what is probably wrong with diets to reduce fat cells. All we need is to eat less and deposit fewer fat cells. Any diets that offer to remove these could be doing real damage by altering our systems.
Back to the dogs: high amounts of Vitamin A derived from liver are risky (but what have you to lose?) are needed. It is important to realize that too much of the real Vitamin A derived from liver can cause cells in the liver to swell and burst.
But beta carotene is stored in the kidneys...the disadvantage being that it is not storable like the fat-soluble A from liver. You have to replace it every so many hours. So I use some of each. Backup plan.
Apparently, ANY LIPID-COATED virus can be disabled by invading the lipid (fat) coating of the virus to thus reach and remove/disable the cholesterol that permits replication by the virus.
You may not be able to kill this virus ever, but perhaps you CAN STOP ITS ABILITY TO REPLICATE - which it does by getting inside a healthy cell. Viruses, unlike bacteria, can not reproduce themselves; they have to use a body cell and will do so till it exhausts it and moves then to others. At least this is how I understand it.
So, while this little book only showed part of the whole picture, it is more than I have been able to find since, from any traditionally, allopathically-trained veterinarian in America.
Important to know: And just because someone calls himself a Homeopath does not mean that he has the background. It takes an expert as a teacher and many, many years of experience. I learned about John Cain recently and that started me on a quest to learn and understand more. The man who started all of the Homoeopathic concepts was named C. Hahnemann, and he took serious chances over two hundred years ago. But he was on to something that has taken this long to start to have an explanation. He learned a lot but it has since then become standardized and is more and more being looked into as a respected, if not fully yet understood method that works where traditional medicines have consistently appeared to fail.
While it was too late to save our first dog, it has opened the door to the things to avoid, and then - again, because of the Internet, I could access books that would never have quickly become available to me, without the Internet and your fast service.
Absolutely incredible and deeply appreciated!
Thank you for getting this invaluable book to me!

very helpful!

I purchased this book to help in treating my German Shepherd, as he is a very sensitive dog and the breed can be prone to some health challenges. I wanted a book that has strong basics and isn't watered down or tainted by the current trend to stray from classical homeopathy which uses one remedy at a time for treatment. That is the form of homeopathy that helped me when I used it decades ago as a young mom and that is the form that I plan to use for my dog now. I really like the ideas for treatment given by this author and I plan to use this little book extensively!
