In 1870, after completing a 1000-mile trek across Canada, Lt. W.F. Butler, an officer of the British Army, recommended the establishment of a 'well-equipped force from 100 to 150 men, one-third to be mounted' for the purpose of policing the North West; three years later, the North West Mounted Police was established. By the late 1980s, this force, now the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), had grown to include 18,000 members, with a budget of more than $1 billion. This book outlines the origins and evolution of the RCMP, detailing its formation, tasks, uniforms and insignia.

Royal Canadian Mounted Police always get their man!
By Herbert Booker
Greetings & Salutations! If you go to my website at picasaweb dot google dot com / booker1942 (Booker's Free Web Library), you can download free scans of the actual insignia and uniforms worn by the North West Mounted Police and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police like those shown in this book. This book is a great source that shows you what was worn, unlike older books of a century ago sometimes described the R.C.M.P. insignia and uniforms, more often than not, did not mention such details, sad to say! This book is a bargain at the price and has good clear images. This is of value to collectors, researchers and those interested parties who want to know what the well-dress Mountie looked likke uniformed in their scarlet-red tunics. Enjoy!

Great color, great book.
By Richard C. Vaughan
Very nice book, particularly for the miniature modeler...now if we can just get someone to produce a few miniatures? The uniform colors are very nice on several color plates.
