About the Author

Charles R. Swindoll has devoted his life to the clear, practical teaching and application of God's Word. He currently pastors Stonebriar Community Church in Frisco, Texas, and serves as the chancellor of Dallas Theological Seminary. His renowned Insight for Living radio program airs around the world. Chuck and Cynthia, his partner in life and ministry, have four grown children and ten grandchildren.

John F. Walvoord was president of Dallas Theological Seminary and author of numerous books on eschatology and theology. He held the A.M. degree from Texas Christian University in philosophy and the ThD degree from Dallas Theological Seminary in Systematic Theology.

J. Dwight Pentecost was distinguished professor emeritus of Bible exposition of Dallas Theological Seminary. He is the author of numerous books including Prophecy for Today, Things to Come, and Things Which Become Sound Doctrine.

This is an excellent book for those who are seeking answers to what the book of Revelations has to say about our future. good reference for uniforms enthusiast, but...

The only disadvantage of this volume is that the Author tried to discuss literally all "foot" units, including irregulars, militia and volunteers (in my opinion - these units need to be treated in separate volume). Due to the lack of space the title does not cover the Austrian REGULAR infantry uniforms, arms and equipment in full, unfortunately.

Traveling light was a great light read. (no pun intended) It gave a common sense approach to not worrying so much about things out of our control as mothers or just people in general. We tend to worry about everything related to our children forgetting that we are not in control. This book came at a great time in my life that not only helped me as a mom but as a wife, friend, sister, daughter, mom and so on and so on. Put this in your cart.

I have read SOOO many books on mothering and found this to be one of the best - very lighthearted and easy to read, yet full of meaty truths we always need to be reminded of. The main life changing truth it showed me was to worry less (my children belong to God), and enjoy life more. I highly recommend it for mothers of all ages!

Tournaments are shown as far more than just sport. They had wide political, social and military implications; in England their potential as a political instrument was quickly realised: for the disaffected they became a means of rebellion and feuding, but for the king and court they were a powerful propaganda machine. Participation in tournaments was also a way to earn a coveted reputation for chivalry; the passion for tourneying could bring knights lasting fame. Military demands accounted for the increasing sophistication of armour and weapons, partly in response to the demands of the tourneyers, who needed military training that reflected their role in actual combat. This wide-ranging study looks at the tournament from all these angles, and in so doing produces an exemplary history of the first three hundred years of their development. Unless you can read Old French...

As the previous reviewer noted, this book contains entire passages of quotations in untranslated Old French. I am, admittedly, an amateur scholar/enthusiast, but I cannot believe it possible that a large percentage of this book's target readership is fluent in Old French! Would it really have been so much trouble for the editors to provide footnotes of translation?

A little academic in structure but excellent

While the nature of this work is very academic, it is so well writen that it becomes a pleasure to read. Full of interesting examples and stories, the author is careful to put everything in context. It contains none of the usual "conservative for the sake of it" attitude that can be so annoying in more academic history books. If you have any intrest in hastiludes then you will love this book. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is none of the quotes are translated.

Excellent coverage of the mind of Archbishop Cranmer

This collection of essays deals with a useful array of topics that will be of special interest to those of the Anglican theological tradition. This book serves as a needed balance to the biography from MacCulloch that paints Cranmer as a rabid protestant with no real interest in the beliefs of the early church. It also helps to dispel many of the misconceptions about Cranmer's sacramental theology that are widely held by both "anglo-catholic" and puritan "evangelical" alike. In these essays Cranmer emerges as the chief reformer of a church that he envisioned as one founded on the Scriptures, the ancient Fathers, and right reason. Rather than being against the concept of a "via media" church (as MacCulloch claims) Cranmer is the very author of it.

Cranmer - Prince of Hypocrites

Unbelievable in this age of information that folk still Laud a man who even his contemporary Bishop of Winchester reviled for his duplicity and hypocrisy .This is the man, after all,who while the Tyrant Henry Rex still reigned ,tied many a protestant to the stake for not being Catholic,yet on Henry's death turned about face and started burning folk for being Catholic.No amount of Hume-like Historical whitewash can detract from the facts of History as we now have them.William Cobbett-Historian, describes Cranmer as the prince of hypocrites.The English Protestant reformation was a work of lust and plunder from beginning to end and Cranmer and his ilk quashed the true and natural religion which for 900 years had sustained England and kept her happy and free.They had to initiate change of course to give some sort of legitimacy to their rapine.Compare the peaceful introduction of Catholicism into England by St Augustin and a handful of monks to the industrially cruel and violent nature of the imposition of Protestantism.Apples and Oranges!

To quote Cobbett (1824)(A Protestant)"..a fair and honest inquiry will teach us that this was an alteration greatly for the worse; that the "Reformation," as it is called,was engendered in lust,brought forth in hypocrisy and perfidy,and cherished and fed by plunder,devastation,and rivers of innocent English and Irish Blood; and that as to its more remote consequences,they are,some of them,now before us,in that misery,that beggary,that nakedness,that hunger,that everlasting wrangling and spite,which now stare us in the face,and stun our ears at every turn,and which the "Reformation" has given us in exchange for the ease,and happiness,and harmony, and Christian charity,enjoyed so abundantly and for so many ages by our Catholic forefathers..."

Englishmen would better spend their time researching that idyll of a country that was so cruelly ripped from them for the gain of an elite few and how Pauperism and Poor-laws were unknown before Henry's diabolical theft of Church property,property used for the beneficence,education and hospitality (in its true sense) of the entire community.

Fantastic

This book is a seven course meal. It's got something for everyone--scientific minutiae for the geek, Tudor-era iconography, architectural history, and mythology. I would highly recommend this to anyone interested in the image of King Arthur in medieval and Renaissance era England. A must read.
